In 2018, China published—and later deleted—a revealing list of 35 critical technologies in which it depended on foreign expertise and products. Eight years later, how many of these technological “chokepoints” has Beijing overcome?
This new report finds that China has achieved parity or near parity in nine to 12 of these technologies but remains significantly behind in 12 to 14 others.
